multiinfluentialsWomen of color represent 46 million persons in the U.S. This number will grow to 54 million by the year 2010 and to 63 million by 2020. The vox collective and The 85% Niche announced today a joint initiative to help brands address the untapped business opportunity among all women of colors-Latina, Black, and Asian, both in and outside the United States. The initiative will gather talent from both entities as well as consultants with specific area expertise in women’s marketing, specific cultural markets, and various industries.

The initiative launches digitally at http://www.multiinfluentials.com , a destination providing insights regarding women of color, including cultural drivers that can serve to forge stronger connections with this segment. Social media will also be a part of the plan including Facebook and Twitter. Supporting the launch will be a conference and workshop tour visiting various Fortune 500 companies whose business is driven by women. “Women are not monolithic and marketing to women does not mean marketing to White women alone,” states Miriam Muley from The 85% Niche. “The multi-influentials® will provide gender, diversity and life stage insights and strategies to corporations interested in taking marketing to women to the next level.” Additional components in this initiative include proprietary research, insights presentations, ideation and action planning sessions, trends reports and videos among others.

Consider these facts about multi-influential women of color:

  • 35.2% of the U.S. female population are of non-Anglo descent. By 2050 this number will grow to 50% and in states like California, Texas, Washington, D.C., and Hawaii multi-influential® women of color are the majority of the population.
  • From 2000 to 2007, women of color grew +18.7% in population while the non-Hispanic White female population only marginally increased by +1.1%.
  • 88% of the absolute growth in U.S. female population from 2000 to 2007 was attributable to births and immigration among women of color.
  • Over 500,000 U.S. households are headed by a family of color earning over $200,000 per year.
  • 1 of every 7 adult women of color is an entrepreneur.
  • 57% of college students of color are women; 43% are men of color.
  • Women of color are 11 years younger than non-Hispanic White females. This represents an opportunity to stimulate greater sales among women of color over their lifetime and to tap into the employee talent represented by this highly educated, younger market.
